I wanted to give this a vote, too. Having read Milford's book, I appreciated the Wednesday - Thursday progression as a poignant encapsulation of what in fact happened to Millay -- from the amateur acting at Vassar and afterward and the dramatic quality of her early readings, to the later obligatory tours, the increasingly frantic chasing after Eros and beauty.

Look at the pictures and these lines have that much more resonance. But the confluence of "stares" and "end it all" wasn't an oblique reference to her demise . . . was it?
