Default Sonnet Bake-off 2009: Call for Submissions

Sonnet Bake-off: Call for Submissions !!!

Dear Eratosphereans,

As I will be corresponding with Mr. Turner Cassity via the traditional postal service, the call for sonnets for this year’s Eratosphere Sonnet Bake-off has been advanced to today rather than March 1.

If you wish to participate (and I hope you will!) please email me one sonnet per poet in the body of an email (no attachments, please) to:

catherine dot chandler dot poetry at gmail dot com

by noon, Tuesday, March 10th, with the subject line as Bake-off.

Your sonnet may be unpublished or published (although, as in last year’s call, please do not send sonnets published in anthologies or trade press books).

I will then read all submitted sonnets and choose twelve to mail to Mr. Cassity for his comments, which he will then mail back to me for posting on the Sphere.

Beginning April 1, I will post two sonnets per day, along with Mr. Cassity’s comments. After the discussions, we’ll hold a popularity poll, whereupon the identities of all authors will be revealed.

A special thank you to Mr. Turner Cassity for agreeing to participate in this event. We are truly honored.

I would also like to thank Lance Levens for arranging for Mr. Cassity's participation.

Now, please send in those sonnets !!!

Thank you.

Cathy

Default Google Gmail Crash

If anyone tried to send me a sonnet this morning between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, you probably did not get through due to the Google gmail crash.

If so, please resend, as the problem has been fixed.

Thank you.

Good morning!

So far, I have received a variety of sonnet forms, including the Sicilian, Petrarchan, Shakespearean, and Spenserian. Various meters, rhymed, unrhymed; voltas all over the place or non-existent. I've even received one double sonnet (which is OK as the double sonnet is a recognized form where two sonnets together form a single poem).

I just wanted to make it clear that these forms are acceptable for the bake-off, as would be a caudate or curtal, should I receive one. I would, however, not go as far as submitting a sonnet crown, sequence, or redoublé!

Just to be clear: the sonnet doesn't have to have have been workshopped here in the past year, or anytime ever? I could just be any sonnet we have in our vaults, as long as it hasn't been in a book or an anthology? Just want to be sure.
