Hottest Passage Ever
I just had a religico-erotic experience while reading this passage in Latin:
At medias inter caedes exsultat Amazon,
unum exserta latus pugnae, pharetrata Camilla,
et nunc lenta manu spargens hastilia denset,
nunc validam dextra rapit indefessa bipennem;
aureus ex umero sonat arcus et arma Dianae.
(Vergil’s Aeneid Book 11, Lines 648—652
Quiver-girded Camilla, the Amazon, one breast
thrust naked toward the fight, leaps into
the middle of the slaughter. While, again and again,
her left hand heaves rugged spears,
her inexhaustible right hand whirls
a massive battle-ax. A golden bow (Diana’s weapon)
is rattling on her shoulder.
. . . . .
With "Camilla" and "Diana," the passage is clearly a prophecy about poor Charles' wives.
