You are right.

Thanks.

Oh, I forgot Ann Drysdale, and her many wonderful poem collections (and prosimetra) that approach life's difficult truths with a combination of reverence and irreverence! Very influential.

Teens: Auden, Shelley, Housman

Twenties: Auden and Betjeman

Thirties: Auden, Robinson, McKay, Donne, Herbert, Shakespeare, Milton, and pretty much every Renaissance poet

Forties: As above, but especially Herbert, Milton, Shakespeare...and Auden

Regarding the scuttlebutt about Robinson, it's hard to think of a three-time Pulitzer winner as "underrated," and yet...he's underrated. One of the high points of my academic career so far was teaching half a dozen of his character poems (from Children of the Night) to an undergrad course I taught on character and characterization in the spring. One student came up with a queer theory interpretation of "Fleming Helphenstine" and I doubt I'll be able to read the poem any other way.

Not inclusive enough. Not definitive.
Youth: Shakespeare! Catullus! Ψαπφω! Canticles (in Bible).
Adulthood: Duino Elegies (in the original!), Yeats, MacLeish, Trakl? Fortran, Cobol, Basic, Dylan, Auden, Homer in Rodney Merrill’s metrical translations. Catullus and Sappho again.

Reaction against: Peter Orlovsky (didn’t care for his “sperm on the typewriter keys”, wuh).

So much more, pro and con.
I guess Shakespeare, Catullus, Canticles, Sappho, Homer, G. W. Leibniz.

Ah, the poetic possibilities of Cobol, Allen! With properly-defined data fields, you could write

MOVE HEAVEN TO EARTH
SUBTRACT AN-OYSTER FROM ITS-SHELL
ACCEPT YOUR-LIFE FROM BIRTH
CALL ME-ISHMAEL
TRANSFORM YOUR-MOOD FROM GRIEF TO MIRTH
SEND DONALD-TRUMP TO HELL

and the computer would do it all.

Note to Julie: This is not an illicit poem - as if I would! - just a series of valid Cobol instructions.

Poor program. It is already suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Adulthood: Duino Elegies (in the original!),

Oh, woeful are we poor mortals that must read via translation. Oh, grant us the power of bilingualism! Oh, oh!
