Hi,

My visual/animated poem 'Labyrinth/Establishment' proposal has been accepted and will be presented/performed as part of the 2021 CSpace Conference: Beyond Education? Radical Collective Thinking, Imagining and Being in/for Unprecedented Times.

Thank you all loads for letting me workshop this here & asking such great questions, as this has helped me articulate the ideas behind it no end (and will also hopefully help me in the Q&A bit of the presentation).

Thank-you! I will share. It's on Monday, which took me a bit by surprise as I'm only just back from Dartmoor.

You may regret having asked, though, as this will involve me wearing antlers, presenting the idea of the education space as a potential labyrinth (with reference to Lefebvre's writing on Rabelais & how we can see the real thorough the fantastic, the need for myth, Lefebvre's imagining of poetry as the space of possible) and exhorting a (possibly either completely bewildered or underwhelmed) audience of educators to read more poetry/think like poets.

Wearing antlers and the rest sounds reasonable. Sorry I've only just seen this post, otherwise Word-Bird and I would've voted for the massive flowery number, incorporating pockets of earth for actual blooms :-) :>)

In the end, I wore a very severe black chiffon blouse with a white peter-pan collar number to contrast with the weirdness of the antlers. And it went okay! And that really is largely because of here as my poems were unreadable before.

I did it, anyway. To an audience of 45, which is fairly large for me. And had some nice comments and feedback and questions around journey-making, the value of poetry in trans-disciplinary curricula and how we bring ideas together for future performed events. Phew.

I love the idea of a pocket dress with blooms, btw. We once had a wonderful textiles student who made a cress textile - it was beautiful. (I also liked your morris dance pantoum - I know you've sent it out now so won't comment - but I thought it worked really well).

If anyone is interested in the conference contents, then it revolved around a theme of the ethics of care - of pedagogies of care - and of radical pedagogies, and how we might use the disrupted COVID-impacted landscape to try to imagine new futures for education which are less linear and which re-appropriate ideas of 'establishment' - not as external formal structures of power but as the students and staff establishing their sense of self through education.

I don't know how we'll take it forwards, but if anyone is interested in this kind of thing, PM me and I can send you links to keynotes/further ideas.

The contents sound fascinating. During my time at Ashgate I copyedited a lot of conference proceedings. These days I'm mostly at Elgars and although I find economics interesting I miss a bit of artiness sometimes; I'll PM.
