Wow, Mary, this is simply fantastic!!!! It speaks well for the magazine.
Huge congrats!! But...I recall seeing another sonnet by you, “The Romance of Middle Age,” if memory serves me, on the Poetry foundation website. So is the website not the magazine? No relationship? That was when Christian Wiman was there and formalists stood a fighting chance. So this is Everest. Impressive!

Thanks, Jayne, Mark, Cathy, and Siham!!!

“The Romance of Middle Age” was published by American Life in Poetry, which, like Poetry, is sponsored by the Poetry Foundation, I think.

Edit: And you too, Patrick, thanks!

Mary, that is wonderful--congratulations. I'm afraid that I don't even send there, so I'm thinking you not only have a good poem but are an enterprising and bold soul! Yay, you--

Thanks, Andrew and Marly!! I submitted off and on for around 15 years. But I feel I -- and out people like me, and people who freely write about what I write about; ie lesbians, especially in a healthy way -- have been excluded from the poetry conversation for centuries. So when I first received the email from Poetry, it took a while to believe the words were true. I'm still in shock -- the kind of shock one gets from suddenly crashing through a glass ceiling

Brava! Considering current publishing "trends" at the journal, this is nothing short of a marvel of marketing

Thanks, Melissa and Jenn. Not sure how "marketing" comes into it. I submitted some poems and one was accepted. A marvel, for sure. There are poems in this journal better than anything I see elsewhere, like this one, for instance. What a tour de force.
