Default Being the Bad Guy

I was going to say something on the Accomplished thread but there didn't seem to be an opportunity. I just ordered a bunch of books by John Whitworth and I will never regret it! His most recent, "Being the Bad Guy" is funny and audacious and very wise and sometimes moving and profound. I have only just started reading this bonanza of Whitworthiana but I can already say that if you don't seize the opportunity to enrich your lives with poems by our resident boulevard Mozart then you're absolutely barmy.
Janet

PS: His poem about Henry Kissinger is more than worth the price of admission and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Why Janet, how very kind. I know I am a genius but so far the club is REMARKABLY small. How could they pass me over for BOTH Poet Laureate and Oxford Professor? AND no bloody medal as yet. What is Her Majesty thinking of? I was so nice about her own poetry.

If the dinner party gets dull, and no one seems to know what to say to people they never met before, I break the ice by reading a poem by John and putting the ice in the drinks. That gets people talking and laughing.

I'm sure the club is bigger than you think, John, from Oz to Sweden to Texas to Edinburgh--at least.

Last time I was standing before the monument to Sir Walter Scott on Princes Street , I definitely heard "John" falling from everyone's lips.

Can anybody give us a link for ordering John's book direct from the publisher?

PS: I know how you feel, John. I look in the mail for my Rich and Famous Contract every day.

"King Thing" is the favorite of my friends. But "I Wish You a Wave of the Sea" from Poor Butterflies is one of my favorite poems, by anyone.

John, when is your next book coming out?

Gail, John may come along with a better alternative.

The following books by John Whitworth are available. If you can’t make it to a bookshop they can all be purchased from 20 Lovell Road Rough Common Canterbury Kent CT2 9DG.

This always gets my Swedish friends snorting and flexing their muscles.

Vikings

The Vikings wear their horny hats
and sail their beaky boats.
They plait their hair in yellow plaits
And stink like billy goats,

There are four more verses, or courses. One for the welcome drink, one for the soup, one for the meat and one for desert. And the final one with a repeat of it all when we repair to coffee and cognac.

My best recipe for a successful party.

Further to what Janice said, the great Lord Harry Chambers of Peterloo , long may his name be extolled, has retired from the fray to Yorkshire and all JWs books areONLY available at his Rough Common Address where orders will be processed with despatch and a FREE copy of Lovely Day for a Wedding will be included in all orders for three books or more.

Can't say fairer than that, now can I?
