Well I, for one, welcome our new Dark Overlord of the Tiki Bar.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

CLARIFICATION:

The above is simply a flippant remark about submitting to Quincy, taking J.D.'s comment at face value. Nothing more should be read into it. On a whim, I merged the title of one of Quincy's books (The Dark Lord of the Tiki Bar) with an Internet meme from a 1994 episode of The Simpsons ("I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords"), which had in turn inspired by the 1977 film adaptation of H.G. Well's short story "Empire of the Ants."

It was not a very funny joke, but neither was it actual sycophancy. I have no intention of entering this or any other poetry book contest, nor indeed of ever publishing a book of my poetry, and I honestly have no opinion of Quincy's suitability for world domination. (Although now that I think about it, the idea of winkle-pickered thugs instead of the usual jackbooted variety...no, no, I'm not going there.)

The first entry rule states "The annual competition is open to all American poets". Bah! Humbug!

Quincy and Raintown published me when I needed it, and I somehow found my original post in this spot.

"Julie, I was a friend of Quincy. I won’t say more, apart from citing the joke that asks how many (name your preference) does it take to change a sock. Answer: none, the sock has to really want to change."

Accentuate the positive. Is that possible?
