There's a fine version of this that includes Johnny Depp as well, but here's one with just Natalie Portman signing to McCartney's singing. It's a very nice song and well sung, but it wouldn't be nearly as good without the visual.

Somehow I had never heard the song "Stardust" until the Willie Nelson album, and it pretty much bowled me over at the time. I listened to it dozens and dozens of times. I know it's probably not the best version of the song, but in my heart it always will remain. I don't think there's a more perfect song.

I've just learned from the notes beneath a video linked to above that Paul McCartney released an album called Kisses on the Bottom, which must not sound the same on the other side of the pond. That title cheers me up as much as any song is likely to.

Snort, Max!
(BTW, anyone who is somehow not yet among the 56 million people who have watched Paul McCartney's Carpool Karaoke with James Corden needs to take 23 minutes and watch it right now.)
Allen, I would never have pegged you as a Mary Chapin Carpenter fan!

There’s 427 ways to say, “Those who know don’t tell; those who tell don’t know.” Tapping the high beams in the left lane. Best. Thanks.

The McCartney incident reminds me how cheering comedy can be.
I've definitely turned to this clip when I've needed a laugh. Start around 6:30, with "What's that area code for Bakersfield?"
It would be funnier without the operator's voice (as it would be experienced on stage), and the humor is probably enhanced by the context of the whole play (worth the watching), but I think it's enjoyable as a separate set piece.

Ah, Martin... Carmina Burana. Love it, love it, love it, and always have. Your other links are great, too; thanks for sharing.
I'd just like to say THANK YOU to everyone for engaging with this thread. The various music we all enjoy, and which cheers us up when we need it, has been a revelation.
A Spherean friend has enquired, via email, about the sad news which prompted me to start this thread. It's ongoing, I'm afraid...
... but meanwhile, it's so uplifting to click on the links you're posting. The lovely (late, great) Ian Dury, bless him, had it right (the sound quality's not brilliant, sorry, but you'll get the gist...):

We all have some Reasons to Be Cheerful, no matter what.

I don't think anyone brought up this song yet. All you hear in this track are sounds made by Bobby McFerrin without the use of any instruments other than his voice.
