Default Fourth of July Light Verse Challenge

My husband, Arthur the Anglophile, says he thought of the title and first line of a light verse but couldn't get any farther. I told him I would post it on the Sphere and it would be finished. This is the start:

KING GEORGE ANSWERS MR. JEFFERSON

Independence, you say? Well, you got your way,
And how much good did it do you?

Come on! Can't I get anyone to spend the holiday working on this?

KING GEORGE ANSWERS MR. JEFFERSON

Independence, you say? Well, you got your way,
And how much good did it do you?

Release your slaves and give them rights,
and we suspect they'll sue you.

(Problem: The terminology "sue you" may not have been extant in the late 18th C. ...What sayeth thou, Gail? Arthur?)

Thank you, Terese!
Jan Hodge also sent me some lines in a private e-mail.
All this helped Arthur to get over the loss of the queen's head on our postage stamps.

Message to Arthur from Her Royal Majesty

Our loyal subject, Arthur, pray do not despond,
nor let your true heart feel discord, sir.
For a stamp of our head, you need not cross the pond,
just visit you friends o'er the border.

Independence, you say? Well, you got your way,
And how much good did it do you?
The phrase "pursuit of happiness"
means "sit back while I screw you."

King Georger Answers Mr. Jefferson

"Independence, you say?
Well, you got your way,
And how much good did it do you?"

“Oh, we’ll get by,” was Jeff.’s reply,
“Poor George, we hardly knew you.”

"We're not doing so bad--
Come on, George, don't be mad!
Though I guess you can't help if you're cuckoo."
