The University Ca' Foscari has run an interview with me:

Very nice! I like your descriptions of the appeal of Venice and of Dante, but especially the phrase "the American heir of Sappho" is worth the visit. :-)
There's a pleasant pizzeria right in front of the Arsenal where a person can have lunch and admire the gates.

Cheers,
John

Thank you, John, and thanks for the restaurant suggestion. I have moved on to Florence, a Florence crazed with tourists.

My secret in Italy was to be up and out by 6 a.m. You have the town to yourself, and the first cafes are open.

Cheers,
John

Cool guy, cool interview.

The tiny excerpt from American Divine . . . . So eager to get my hands on that book.

Aaron, I'm curious which collection of yours was being presented in translation? (Even more curious: did you do your own translation, or get a native-speaker to "land it" / consult? And then, all the interactions you might have had with your translator. I'm registering my curiosity merely; I feel that that stuff is somehow very private.)

Happy travels,
Daniel

Daniel,

I will email you the latest draft of "American Divine." An Mattia Ravasi, an Italian, did most of the translation work, along with several others. For the most part, the translators worked independently of me. They only emailed me with questions when there was an interpretive issue. The publication was part of an appearance at a conference, Incroci di Civilta in Venice.

Thanks for your interest,

Aaron
