Smutty is the new saucy? Filthy is the new smutty? Or are we showing our age, perish the thought.

I've no objection to filth. I, after all, edited an anthology of it. But she SAID saucy, which isn't at all the same. Perhaps, as you, Terese, hint, she wasn't properly brought up. I always tried not to swear in front of my children, though with little success according tothem. I blame it on my upbringing. Scots swear a helluva lot. It masks their essential benevolence. Incidentally, the winning dialogue is but a poor prose rendition of a poem by Wendy Cope which may well have won a previous competition. In her younger days she used to enter (and more than just occasionally win) those things.

As the man said (Lionel Bart) Fings ain't wot they useter be!

Yes John, I recognized the Cope and thought the entry was poor form and surprised that it found favor.
Guess you're right, fings aren't at all wot they used ter be.
