Default Exquisite Corpse

Let's play.

Let's blank out all but the last word, and specify the part of speech if the sentence is incomplete.

Let's also keep it within the parameters of IP. A person can rhyme if he or she so chooses. But only one line, and let's say you can't jump back in for 5 lines. Let's end it at 24 lines, at latest, unless it's really going strong.

Let's see where it takes us. I'll start:

They search for stars among the puddles of

Hi Andrew,
There's no danger of me cheating. It's 2.15am, I'm in bed typing this on my phone ...(and I'm a blonde).
I don't 'get' this!

Or. Let's not.

Ok, that was snippy, but I couldn't resist.

I think I get it. It's like that drawing game, where you concertina-fold a piece of paper and draw a weird creature. One person draws the top of its head and leaves two little lines under the fold for the next person...

Sadly, I'm with Jayne on this one. Have you been at the espresso, Andrew?

Such endearing optimism

(This is going to be a massive hit now isn't it, just to prove me wrong...)

I just googled 'Exquisite Corpse'! Thanks Andrew, you taught me something new. I never knew the drawing game I used to play with my brother and sister had its roots in the Surrealists!

Hmm. Maybe I could get on board with this...

Edit: I should go to bed.

I've never written a poem where any line - let alone the first - ends in "of", and I'm not going to start now.

Also, if I run my cursor across the line with the "of", I can see the entire line. Is that "cheating"? (I refuse to google "exquisite corpse" - it would make me a cohort.)

If you want to introduce a new game, I suggest you find a jazzier word than "of" as an attention-getter. I just can't picture the boulevards being thronged with people chanting "of". Even "om" would be better, and it offers many more rhymes and possibilities. Or consider "orgasm" as a crowd pleaser. I think you need an agent.

Oh, boo. Of is a great line ender for exquisite corpse! You have to finish a preposition phrase, which is fun because you don't know what you're propositioning, particularly "of."

Also, yes, highlighting the line is cheating.

And, also, yes, 24 lines is perhaps ambitious, but we can end it long before that. We can let whoever wants to end it and then put it together.

Never mind how we end it...
How we even start it is what I'd like to know!

Still nonplussed.

Deleted a load of nonsense I wrote on waking...

Is someone supposed to write line 2 now, without seeing line 1 that ends in "of"? And do they just show the last word as well?
I can't quite get my head around this. (Not properly awake yet...)
