Default Which Way

The voice inside
the stone
tries to convince me
it's over.
I have no retort
or plea
and join the dog
with albino eyes.
We roll on our backs
in the soft grass, spring
over one another with joy.

The voice in the stone
leaves, the stone
cracks open,
the dog with albino eyes
rolls onto his feet
and moves at an angle
that allows him
to look back
at me
as he sidles away.

I try to write poems in various ways. I find it alarming that as I write more my ability to do something different and new to me goes away. I guess that is what I should want. To settle into a voice and style. All poets do it. I'm still resistant.

This throws me off. I don't know what it's meant to be, to mean, to allude to.

I almost wonder whether these statements reversed would work better.
