Thanks for that link, Bill--and Ann, thanks for the recommendations. You probably know that FDR told Jan Struther that Mrs. Miniver hastened America's entry into WWII. The Encyclopedia of British Women's Writing, 1900-1950 adds that when MGM produced a sequel to the film, The Miniver Story, Struther disliked it and sued the studio--successfully--for killing off Mrs. M.

My husband, who was in love with Greer Garson and her crescent shaped eyes, has seenMrs. Miniver many times -- likewise her performance in Pride and Prejudice.

Supposedly Louis B. Mayer was secretly but deeply in love with Greer Garson. She could do no wrong in his eyes and he saw to it that she always had the parts she wanted.

This last month was Ernst Lubitsch month on TCM. I discovered his early musicals and am still enchanted. Thank you Europe for sending him our way. I also recently saw "Brief Encounter" and "I Know Where I'm Going" again. It was a great holiday season for movie watching.

“If her head was on your shoulder
And she grew a little bit bolder
Now I ask you what would you do with a girl like that?
... Now I ask you what would you do?
That’s what I did too.”
