Default The Orchards

The Orchards Poetry Journal's Winter 2020 issue is out now, with a tribute to Kim Bridgford and with poems by many current and former Eratospherians. I am in there, and so are Gail White, David Landrum, Chris O'Carroll, Vera Ignatowitsch, Lisa Barnett, Leslie Monsour, Robin Helweg-Larsen, and Terese Coe. I have probably missed a few, so if I did, feel free to add your names.

Susan

Orchard looks really good, Susan, including your fine poem that was recently on Metrical. Congrats to all involved in the issue.

Thumbs up The Orchards

Ahem.

Hi Susan. I also liked "Waltz," with the anapestic meter mimicking the triple-time of the waltz. It reminded me of Theodore Roethke's "My Papa's Waltz," which used iambic trimeter to do the same thing. Are you familiar with it?

And the tribute to Kim Bridgford was well-earned. We've all lost people in the last year, but none was more important to formal poetry than Kim. I was fortunate enough to attend West Chester in one of her last years as Director there, then again in 2015 when she started Poetry By the Sea. New conference in a new venue? No problems; it ran like clockwork. Most of us thought of her as a poet, but her organizational skills were also exceptional.

As for the latest issue of The Orchards, I'm very pleased to be in your company.

Ted

Sorry to have missed you, Ted. I remember you from the conferences, but had forgotten that you are also a member here. Yes, I am very familiar with Roethke's "My Papa's Waltz," and I was thinking of it as I wrote my poem.
