Default Cultural Daily Review

A review I wrote of the underappreciated poet Simon Perchik, who is 98 and hospitalized with Covid pneumonia, is up at Cultural Daily.

John,

I enjoyed reading this. Thank you for introducing me to a new (but, of course, old) poet!

John, thanks for writing the review and posting a link here. I've been reading his poems in journals for over 40 years, and your piece better highlights his humanity and development than any I've seen before now. I do recall an interesting interview with him from several years ago, but I can't bring to mind the interviewer's name or where it was published. I'd seldom mistake his work for anyone else's.

I'm saddened to hear of his illness, but I nonetheless wish him (and you) the best.

Thanks John, that was really interesting to read. Beautifully accessible but with just enough withheld to make me want to read more of Perchik's work. I do recognise his name, I must have read him, but as individual poems, not a canonised name.

A very interesting review, John; thank you. I do hope Simon Perchik recovers from his illness.

Best wishes,
Fliss

Thanks for bringing this neglected poet to our attention, John. It's an important thing to do.

Default Ralph's forthcoming few

Sorry. Right church, wrong pew. But. . . .

John, I’m fascinated by what you say he’s doing, but I must confess my mind cannot yet dance to his extraordinary tunes (guess I’m associatively and cognitively disadvantaged).

Thank you for reading everyone. I'm happy to say I was told he is out of the hospital and the review was read to him.
