Thanks for your good words about
String Poet. As in past issues, there are some very talented Sphereans represented.
Roger, I tend to lurk more than I post here, but wanted to respond to your questions.
There are two reading periods each year. During the winter reading period, unsolicited submissions are received through the contest only, and these entries are considered for the spring/summer
String Poet. In the spring/summer, there is an open reading period for submissions, and those entries are the pool for the fall/winter issue.
Translations are accepted year-round. They are outside of the String Poet Prize. I'd be interested in reading some of your unpublished translations.
A brief word about the String Poet Prize. Along with an honorarium, the prize is that a professional composer (this year,
Eleanor Cory) sets a piece inspired by the winning poem chosen by the Final Judge (This year,
George Held).
J.D. Smith was 2012's first place winner (watch
his reading and the inspired composition here: and fellow Spherean Bill Lantry won an Honorable Mention in 2011.) I hope this year will see equally strong submissions.
Best wishes,
Annabelle
