Okay, he's way too humble to put it that way, and will probably be horrified if he sees that I have. Shhhh....
But that's basically what the following free, one-hour, livestreamed webinar is about, if anyone's interested in the history of the smartphone, and Gil's role in it:

UPDATE: a video of the webinar will be made available for on-demand viewing after the webinar (9am PST on December 10). I'll post a link to that when it's available.
How did this webinar come about, since he is allergic to tooting his own horn?
Well, he was asked to give a version of this talk internally to Qualcomm employees last month. It received such rave reviews that people were actually lobbying the marketing department to have him give it again for the general public.
Of course, his bio near the bottom of the webpage doesn't mention, and neither will his talk, what a fantastic dad Gil was while he and the groups he led were developing all this amazing stuff. One of our kids was facing huge health challenges for much of that period, so the whole family spent countless hours in hospitals. Gil would invent wild, complicated, hilarious stories to entertain both girls there. Then he would apply that same degree of creativity to inventing the things that transformed cellphones from bulky, voice-only luxury items to the sleeker pocket-sized computers that are so ubiquitous today.
I'm grateful for this rare opportunity for others to catch a glimpse of his awesomeness. He's the sweetest and smartest person I've ever met, and people should know that such a wonderful soul exists.
