Thanks for this Ed. It's short and powerful.

Well done, Chrissie. Thwarting the syntax is a very effective indication of the way this kind of news "strangle[s] up [our] mind," to quote Dylan.
Hope you don't mind if I tag on here with the news that I have a poem at New Verse News today, called "America." https://newversenews.blogspot.com.au/

Powerful, Calligraphy. How hard it is to address the unspeakable. How brave and how much we need this.

Thank you, Terese! I completely agree with your comment about syntax. "Thwarting syntax" is one of my favourite writing tools. It's a powerful way of pitching the mind out of well-worn tracks, as well as emulating the effect on the mind of such news, as you say.
And thanks (and congrats!), too, for your couplet. How bleak it is . . .
(An aside --- perhaps, as many Sphereans appear from time to time on New Verse News, we could have a dedicated thread on Acc Mem that we could all tag onto to give attention to any of our apearances there--something like the Good News thread at GT. It could be The Verse News thread.)

Chrissie,
There's enough bleakness to go around, and around the world several times. Writing it does help to some extent, or at least it helps us face it in a sidelong way.
I am with you on your idea for a dedicated thread about published news poems. They're often fairly short, so we'll see what the mods have to say...
