Mezzo Cammin
The latest issue of Mezzo Cammin is out, with poems by me, Claudia Gary, Gail White, Marly Youmans, and others. For anyone unfamiliar with it, it is an online journal of female formalist poets.

Lovely, Susan! I like “The Day After” quite a lot. I’ve recently learned that the Russians even have a word for a mix of iambs and anapests; they call it the dolnik. Is the extra syllable at the end of L4 intended to make up for the missing one at the start of the next line? I think I’ve seen this before, and I’m interested in how these meters work.

Carl, in English, the mix of iambs with a few anapests is often called "loose iambic," though if the lines feel mainly anapestic, that is a meter that allows some iambs. When an extra unstressed syllable ends a line, it can either be left hanging or be wrapped into the meter by starting the next line with a stressed syllable.

Thank you Susan,
Very glad to know that the latest journal is out (I read Mezzo Cammin & have for several years - it was one of the journals which made me want to try to write metrical poetry).
Also, congratulations for your work! It's fab to see it in there, and what an excellent place for the poems.
