John makes Strokestown!!
Hi, don't know if this is the right thread for this but John Whitworth has made the shortlist of the Strokestown Poetry Competition. Take my word, this is some achievement. Many serious poets around the world have tried and failed to make the final ten each year. Some of us just try in the vain hope we'll get lucky.
Winner takes €3,000 plus is normally offered a handy fee for a reading.. Full details here -
The Humorous verse shortlist - (very much the poor relation) - will be announced later.

Congratulations, John. The best moments of the Festival take place in Anthony's, a bar in the back room of a shop in the main street. The door is behind two petrol pumps. Peter and I can both recommend it!
Incidentally, Peter, ever modest, has failed to point out that he has twice won the festival's competition for humorous verse. I, being less modest, can claim to have made that particular shortlist three times -- but only achieved one third prize, which was traded in for Anthony's Guinness within minutes.

Well, thank you all. There are three prizes, so my chances are 3 and a bit to 1. I'm afraid I can't afford to go over there for the reading, alas. Not on a three and a bit to one chance. But all those euros would be nice. Assuming there still are Euros by then.
