I'll bet most sane Americans would wish that history could erase all the terrible memories of Trump and write an erasure poem like Matt did! Let's hope you're biden your time until better days come along.

It doesn't take long for a corny triolet to come anaphoring out in these times of isolation. As soon as I posted my puny comment I dashed this off!

BIDEN OUR TIME

We are all just biden our time
until better times come along.
We are sick of this pantomime
and all of us biden our time.
It is time to restore some rhyme
and to sing a serious song.
We are all just biden our time
until better times come along!

Hi Ralph,

Oddly enough, I was just reading this advice from the Dutch government:

Quote:
Single men and women in the Netherlands are being advised to organise a seksbuddy (sex buddy) after criticism of rules dictating that home visitors maintain a 1.5-metre distance from their hosts during the coronavirus lockdown.
[...]
“Discuss how best to do this together,” the RIVM suggests. “For example, meet with the same person to have physical or sexual contact (for example, a cuddle buddy or ‘sex buddy’), provided you are free of illness. Make good arrangements with this person about how many other people you both see. The more people you see, the greater the chance of (spreading) the coronavirus.”
But they're doing a lot better over there than we are in the UK. So this suggestion does feel rather "stupid cupid" (as you say) at the moment, tempting as it sounds.

First Things First

Like sheep, the masses worship life -- so weak
in spirit. We, the spiritual elite
exemplify the faith. The times are bleak
enough, don't hide your light. Go forth and meet
the world unmasked; go share your holy breath
with lesser folks. It does them good to see
the righteous walk among them. And what's death
to be afraid of? Yours or theirs. It's bravery
we're spreading, and God's love. Remember Jesus
never wore a mask. Real men are braver.
(Besides, I fear the bigger boys might tease us).
Truth is, I act exactly like our Saviour.
He'd surely say the same, were you to ask:
that only girlie cowards wear a mask.

Nice one, Matt. A pity the rules don't allow it to be posted at the site of its birth.

Mike Juster is the poetry editor. You should send it to him.

I'd think hard before sending it to First Things. Assuming that Mike and other decision makers there are willing to print something critical of the magazine, will their readership see the irony?

By the way, Mike Juster tweeted this afternoon that he has stepped down from First Things as of May 13th.
