Default An Appreciation of Tim Murphy

Catholic Arts Today asked me to write an article about Timothy Murphy for them. It is now live, and you can read it here:

In my article are several new poems by Tim.

This is great. Your vivid recollection, your honesty, and your sincerity are worthy of Tim. You both live and breathe. Maybe you will expand this some day. A prosimetrum in the spirit of Set the Ploughshare Deep.

Thank you Jennifer.

That was a wonderful walk with you and Tim. I look forward to more when they are ready for the light of day.

Robert,

I'm almost finished organizing Last Poems. Although it reads as a journal intime, Tim was adamant in that he wished all of his final poems -- often almost too painful to read -- to appear in the tome, to be shared with his readers (whom he addresses directly in several of the poems). He considered it a self-imposed "mission", a sacred duty, and I shall honor his wishes.

Jennifer,

Your article is wonderful!!! I guess I'm too reticent to share publicly the poem Tim wrote for me a while back, and even less so the one he wrote just a few days before his death, but I treasure them.

However, his final dedicatory note to me was also (partly) in French: To loyal Cathy. Je t'aime.

Missing Tim.

Cathy

Bill, I may just one day do so. Also, I am thinking of adopting Tim's dismissive approach to the critic: "I've heard worse from the Sioux." He was great for me, that way. Father, as always, I am grateful you stopped by! Cathy, thank you, and also, for the very, very important work you are doing for Tim, which meant so much to him. Thanks to all.

Jennifer
