Congrats to my Aussie brothers and sisters! A marvelous day.
And Cally, " Strictly Ballroom" is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Still my favorite from BL. Thanks for the reminder!

Yaay! That's so good to see. At the same time you do stop yourself and think how ridiculous it is that this is something that still even needs debating. But anyway....Yaay!
Cally, does 'cracks me up' mean 'makes me weep'? (as opposed to laugh). It certainly made me fill up a little, starved of joyous sights as we are.

Both laugh and weep, Sharkey. In this context, weep, but in a laughing kind of way, the way Homer describes Andromache in the Iliad -- laughing through tears.
And of course it's ridiculous. But remember not so long ago, in historic terms, there was such a thing as 'the White Australia policy' which the blessed Gough fully dismantled in 1975.
Michael, yes! I agree about it being the best BL. Speaking of films, if our national anthem were a film, the film would be The Castle. I'm sure you've seen it! "how's the serenity"

Cally, I have NOT seen "The Castle", but I just watched the trailer and I must, forthwith! Is it on Netflix? I'll look tonight.
On wonderful happenings in Australia, let's not forget "Muriel's Wedding", another one of my all-time favorites... "I'm with Muriel."
Back to our regularly scheduled programming...

See? It's one of my fave lines from The Castle! Daryl says it to the opposing lawyer when he wins his case in the High Court. Maybe it's a Vic or Tassie expression, not so familiar in the great NSW?? I grew up hearing it (and saying it!) all around me. One thing I learned travelling round the land for years is how idioms change from state to state, though the accent hardly varies.
