Emergency – need help with housing of 2 cats and possibly one or more humans
EMERGENCY – NEED HELP WITH HOUSING OF 2 CATS AND POSSIBLY ONE OR MORE HUMANS!
We were kicked out of our apartment in February with 2 months notice! We have searched not only throughout the Boston area, but as far as Portland, Maine and south of Providence, Rhode Island . We have found nothing decent that we can afford and though we want to expand our search to other areas, we have 5 days to move out! In the interim, we can probably find a place to stay for the 3 humans, but our 2 cats (who are actually much nicer than humans!) have been a problem.
I know it's a lot to ask – but can you (or anyone you know?) put up 2 really nice cats, and possibly one relatively nice human (me!) -- we figure maybe one or 2 months until we can find a place.
I know it's a lot to ask, but we are in a dire predicament. I have heard for a long time about the epidemic of "gentrification" (read: people being priced out of their neighborhoods so wealthier people can move in) but now that it has happened to me, I realize what it is like to lose your home in 2 months, after having lived there for 15 years.
Please let me know if you can help. Thanks.

I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic but I feel your desperation. The only practical thing I can do is bump this back up to the top...

I'm on the wrong side of the country, but my family and I live in the same fear of being priced out. If there's anything I can do long-distance, please let me know. In the meantime, I guess I'm just adding views--and some kind of support.

Here on the West Coast I've got a friend who's from Boston. I've sent an email asking whether he has any potential leads.
Good luck!

Unfortunately I got a quick answer. No help.

I found an organization in NYC that would probably fit the bill to help with your pets. If it's not practical to go to NYC, then maybe you could call them to ask if they have any referrals to sister organizations closer to you. Pets for Life.

Marion, you might also reach some local folks who can help out in some way, if you post your message on Nextdoor:

Wishing you the best.

Found Place!!
At the zero hour, we found a place--in Cranston, RI!! At first it was something of a culture shock but we are beginning to adjust. It's more working class than where we were, so, as non-gentry, we probably fit in better here than in snooty "gentrifed" Belmont. Thanks so much for your concern and suggestions!

That's great, Marion, what a relief. I was gentrified right off the East Coast into the bowels of fly-over country. So you're doing fine.
