Why exactly is this funny? Had she hired a clown to punch students in the genitals any time one of them said “intersectionality” or made them read transcripts of Froot Loops commercials in stilted English accents, that would be highlarious. This is just demoralizing.

Oh, Q - it's funny because she had complained of being forced to study stuff that contained "frequent swearing" - and she got an "F". I laughed aloud at that.

Yes, it surely is hilarious. But this:

"lesbians, illicit sexual relationships, incest and frequent swearing," she said.

Matters not a whit. Look at Baudelaire, who turned out masterpieces on lesbians, illicit sexual relationships, gruesome murders, etc.

Give two poets the same challenge. A lousy one will produce a lousy poem on lesbians, a great poet will produce a masterpiece.

lt just killed me that frequent swearing came last. Well, after incest. Because I'm not opposed to anything else listed. Unless you're really a match, of course. But that almost never happens. Humor is so irreplaceable. And so god damned funny.

In as much as I do think humor is essential to being a poet, or artist- I quite simply don't trust an artist who doesn't have the ability to laugh and/or make others sincerely laugh (if I remember correctly, Bunting had words about this), I'll change the topic. (Of course I'm not making a judgement on whether Aaron's thing should or shouldn't be funny. Probably I just need a good laugh myself.) And this is an old, resurrected thread. Anyway, how about that Ford testimony? My god, she did very well. And most importantly, she was authentic and extremely convincing. Now, even before she spoke, I believed her anyway, but, wow, that was compelling.
