Yeah, Quincy, I'm pretty much in that New Wave camp, too. Though we could be thinking of different things. I particularly gravitate towards those thrashy early 80s. I guess punk meeting new wave? I was a kid, but I still really appreciate Rush. Their musical talent alone (they make a hell of a lot of noise for 3 people). I don't bother paying much attention to lyrics generally (there are exceptions). Even the best lyrics usually fall well short of what I think most of us try to do here. If that's pompous, I don't care.
