Thanks Cally! Well, my expectations may be high but I blame it on my youth.
Roger - Thanks. When we first (virtually) met, Cally took it into her head that I was the poetic equivalent of Feargal Sharkey (or something), hence the nickname. And who am I to dissuade her of such a charmingly odd idea?
John - thank you! It's still not that poem though haha.
Catherine - thank you!
Andrew - thank you!
Mary - Yaaay!
Allen - It feels good!

Blame it on the sun, says Stevie Wonder. Or as The Jacksons put it, Blame it on the boogie.
Feargal Sharkey, a fine singer.
Cheers,
John

Congratulations Mark!
I remember this one. Falling blossoms and rising bubbles? There was a couple in it, though, wasn't there? Even if not fighting.

Thank you John R!
Cheers Matt! - Haha. My silly comment about the piece having a beer garden in it in my original post has thrown you and several others off the scent as to which poem it is, despite my protestations. Kind of proving my jokey point that saying the poem contained a pub/beer garden wasn't really narrowing it down. That poem was called 'Falling' and started like this:
All things fall except these bubbles
rising from his pint of cider..
The poem 'Measure' has taken is called 'Present' (brief cameo appearance only from beer garden) and starts:
Try it. Trap a blade of thick green grass
between the nails and muscles of your thumbs,
(the thenar eminence) then stretch and blow,
Hope I can get away with these short extracts here purely to clear it up in case anyone is very disappointed when the wrong poem turns up in the summer...
Thanks again!
Edit: and yes he is, John I, though I did prefer him in The Undertones, scabby child that I was. Don't tell Cally...
Edit edit: I've trimmed the extracts down further after reading the stern warning at the top of this board. Yikes.

Ah, sorry, I completely misread your earlier comment, and thought you'd said it was called "Falling", when it fact you said it wasn't. Must work on my basic reading comprehension skills! I also remember this new one. Honest. Congrats again!

Belatedly, well done Mark. (Travelling.) Measure not known to me. I'll look it up when I can.
Cheers

Do NOT post it here. You're on thin ice as it is, scalawag Eratosphere is short for "elephant's memory". The moderator is immoderate.
Nice, Mark.
