Default Sphere problems / Pruning

Dear Sphereans,

Alex and I have had a bit of a fraught time recently, as you are aware, and would like to thank you all for your forbearance; thank you, too, for the kind messages of support we've received.
Eratosphere is precious to us all, and the recent hacks and threats to its continuity have caused a lot of stress.
However, through the tremendous hard work put in by Alex the site is again strong. (I wish I could reach out to those who inexplicably wish us harm... there's more than enough of man's inhumanity to man in the world already, surely??)

The ''End of Year Pruning" has been postponed several times because of technical problems, but is now scheduled for this Thursday evening, 7th February, some time after 9pm GMT so please save in some format, or print out, any threads you wish to preserve; across the Metrical, Non Metrical, Deep End, Fiction and Translation boards many threads will disappear.

Unfortunately, hacks sometimes result in us losing some data, ...whereas the 6-monthly(-ish) pruning of some of the boards is a deliberate removal of data, to help the smooth running of Eratosphere, so please go and save your threads!

If you have any queries please ask, or PM me.

All the best,
Jayne

John, thank you; that's very kind.

Everyone,
I'm happy to report that I've just implemented Alex's new security system, it works, the pruning is done, and no catastrophe occurred throughout the process - Phew! It's a huge relief after the problems we had last time.

I am going to celebrate with a glass of wine Cheers!!!

Jayne

Thanks, Annie.

As you know, way back when... the pruning used to be a monthly event. When I took up my present position I decided that:
a) it just didn't need doing every month, ...and
b) it was a right royal pain in the *rse to have to do the job that often!

To answer your question, therefore, and which pleases me in a somewhat childlike fashion, the next one is likely to be "The June Prune", as per last year.

Jayne
