Thanks everybody.

Cameron, I have considered "and Lafayette's in Paris with the queen", which is more standard IP, but doesn't convey the retreat as well. Also, not historically correct, as my feet are being held to the fire to some extent. He was with the queen at Versailles. I don't think it's such a serious break from the rhythm of the poem as I have it. I'll give it more thought. Thanks.

Hi Coleman. Very good point. I am actually going to see if I can get it published online before the election. Since I will probably not succeed, note the change to the title and the note at the bottom. I actually like the title better, partly for it's eliminating the need for an epigraph.

Hi Cally. Check out my move for the long game.

Hi Andrew. See my note to John. I really don't want to jump things up at the end. There is too much to work with with Lafayette! I like him going home to the France he left. I'm glad my 9th of Thermidor is connecting! Thanks.

Hi Siham--Thanks. The columns line is there to close thing out with a ruins image. Glad you like it.

When does Denzel show up to fix things? Standard sci-fi apocalypse spin, Rick.

Rick, um, I did not say I liked it exactly. I said it was interesting, rather like the Milinda PaŮha.

Rather (again) in the spirit of your two-line epic in the Asses of Parnassus on your weakened affection for the sum of two plus two, hereís my momentary take:

I do not like this very well.
(The reasons why I shall not tell.)
Nor does the farmer in the dell.
Itís interesting, ok? Now, you stay well.

Let's hope there's a long game ~,:^) Thanks Cally. And Coleman, again, for bringing up the posterity question.
