I just watched the trailer, and to this 47 year old man it looks like pretty good fun. If I was a 17 year old girl I imagine it could be my new favourite thing. I don't think we need to be so precious and reverent about literary heritage. The show seems so blatantly, playfully anachronistic, so clearly viewed through a 'teen movie' genre lens, that nobody is going to mistake it for scholarly biography and it's perhaps a bit patronising to viewers of any age to assume they will. And if any do, well...it's not the end of the world.

Julie - I just read your comment. Haha! Does anyone remember the film 'Time after Time'? Malcolm McDowell is HG Wells, chasing David Warner's Jack the Ripper in a real time machine to 1970s San Francisco. Actually much better than it sounds (yes, I realise that isn't difficult).

I watched the first two episodes. Yes, there are a few things that irritate me but for the most part, it's a fun and lively take on the Dickinson story/myth. It's certainly superior to the "Belle of Amherst" hooey that was once around. She's a living, vibrant young woman--a human. The time slip stuff is silly but it doesn't offend me. Overall, it's an attempt to make a nearly mythical figure into a living human and I appreciate the effort.
