It's a good poem, Quincy. And yes, if the people who believed in Mueller could feel shame, that's what they would be feeling. I'm not so sure they can, though.
Cantor in a recent thread complained about "the standards of the recent Sphere", which is obviously nothing more than a needlessly wordy way of saying "I'm old", so I'm not sure why he's up in arms about the "Mr. Cantor" business.

I plan to hold off speculation about the Mueller report until I see the Mueller report. It seems somehow ... more scientific.
Cheers,
John

Hi Quincy!

It seems in part to be a satire of how a pathetic neoliberal-hipster version of an American socialist revolution might look... Is it about the Mueller report?

Quincy
Aw, give me a tiny bit of credit. I might not have 'nailed it' but I gave it a good solid tap with the head of the hammer, didn't I? I take it it's your attack on trendy media darlings like Voung and the Hamilton musical, rather than your attack on Trump, that makes you think this would be too hot for US publication, yes?
Aaron - I doubt Michael was seriously up in arms. He seemed to be arguing specifically for a return to 'less politeness' on the Sphere in that thread (like Quincy is calling for in political discourse, I suppose). One thing, ironically, that unites everyone from Trump to Quincy to Cantor: the idea that they are the only ones 'telling it like it is' haha...
Edit: anyway, I like the poem.

Mark, I’m sure he wasn’t seriously upset. I just don’t think anyone should be allowed to post “get off my lawn” without receiving some light ribbing for it.

Oh, indeed Aaron. Nobody should be exempt from a light ribbing. We all deserve one every now and then.
Do the people who believed in Mueller really need to feel 'shame'? (I assume you mean people who believed his report would be much more damning of Trump). Won't 'frustration and disappointment' do? Is 'arguably naive optimism' a moral evil now?

If naive optimism leads people to spin the narrative in such a way that Mueller's entirely predictable report seems like a huge win for Trump and empowers him and his cronies to further their agenda while simultaneously upping his chances of getting reelected president, then, yeah, they should feel ashamed for being duped.
Frankly, it's a naive optimism roughly on par as that which the people duped into supporting Trump demonstrated.

Mark, fair point. Allow me to nuance my original claim:
The general mass of folk who held out hope that Mueller would save us don't need to feel shame, though hopefully they will take this as a wake-up call.
The left-wing grifters who have milked the controversy for all it's worth (especially Maddow) and the Democratic officials who have used it as an excuse to avoid thinking about why Hillary Clinton was a singularly terrible candidate should, on the other hand, absolutely feel shame. I doubt, however, that they are capable of it.

This is frankly reactionary and jaundiced to the point of absurdity. [What I meant to say was, yes, that is some specimen, Quincy, and some preamble for the books.]

Ah, thanks Aaron. Yes, the nuance makes a difference. I'll bow out of this now. We have more than enough unavoidably awful politics on this side of the pond at the moment.
I suppose if anyone wants to carry on discussing Mueller etc it might be an idea to start a GT thread, otherwise this might dominate AM announcements.
Cheers
