Default Mason Interview on Radio National

An amazingly beautiful thing happened yesterday, here in Australia. Davey was interviewed on Radio National, on the show The Hub on Books, about poetry and spring. People were moved to tears. I hope you're able to follow this link, and feel the joy.

Beautiful and eloquent -- thanks for the link, Cally! "The habitations I once thought were home." Wow. "Give us this day more world than we can ever know." Wow. He is oracular.

Thanks for that Cally, he's a wonderful talker. I just listened while doing the washing up and he broke broke broke me with the Tennyson. Marvellous.

Oh, and his own stuff is pretty good too.

Happy to stumble across this earlier in the week - when I'm not listening to Dylan, I'm listening to RN.
This is wonderful - 'the language in your heart'. Listening to this, I get the impression David is able to recite thousand of poems at the drop of a hat.

Nausheen, Sharkey, Damian -- I've passed your good thoughts on to Davey. Thank you!

Damian, are you in Melbourne? Dave gave a lecture at Melb Uni the night before. You might have come! And indeed, RN is a national treasure. And yes, he can recite, mid-stream of any conversation, and often I can't tell where the poem ends and his own voice begins again.

Nausheen -- yes to your WOWs. I thoroughly concur!

Sharkey, speaking of breaking, the most amazing thing I've ever seen, in a poetry context, happened the day before this RN interview. During a podcast Dave was recording at Melbourne Uni, he read his poem 'Fathers and Sons', and the interviewer was overwhelmed, and dissolved in uncontrollable tears. The producer had to stop the recording, and the rest of us burst into the recording studio to supply emergency cuddles and emergency Shakespeare comfort-quotes. It was an extraordinary scene. Talk about the power of poetry.

Best to you all!

Cally

I am in Melbourne actually - in Warrandyte - about 20kms out of the CBD. Traffic is nuts on the Eastern Freeway. Would have been great to head into town to hear Davey read - sorry to have missed it. There's something so peaceful about his voice.

I am actually heading into town tomorrow night to watch Collingwood (my other passion) take on Richmond. Hope springs eternal.

Cheers,
DB

Ha! I know Warrandyte like the back of my hand, Damian! Not only that . . . GO PIES!!!! Yes, that's right -- my team, too!!! I'm almost sick with excitement, waiting for tomorrow night!! I hope you actually make it into the G!!

And you're right about Davey's voice. I'll let you know when we're in Melbs next, doing something . . .

I like the Book Shelf poem and the interviewer's accent!

You're a Collingwood supporter too? What a coincidence. Never thought I'd be saying this on Eratosphere, but Go Pies! I hope you've converted Davey to the black and white vertical stripes.
