Duotrope, Measure, and Measure Review confusions
Argh. Most of the time, I love and value Duotrope, but just now they're being stubborn about something of concern to formal poets.
I reported to Duotrope the existence of *Measure Review* and referred them to the relevant web pages. Rather than adding a new listing, they've decided to treat the new journal as a literal continuation of *Measure*, so that the entry reads "Measure Review: A Journal of Formal Poetry [Measure Press]."
That seems to me to be wrong on several counts; the new online journal isn't connected with the press and it doesn't include "a journal of formal poetry" in its full title. Please enlighten me if you think I'm mistaken.
I've objected, but the Duotrope people are telling me that this decision is "in keeping with [their] internal policy."
Formal poets, do you want to complain to Duotrope about this? I certainly want my submissions to the two venues kept separate, to keep history straight.

There's probably a lot I don't know here. (For example, I wouldn't be able to say from my own knowledge what connection, if any, there is between Measure Press and the new online zine.) But I just visited the Measure Review site, and it seems to me that Duotrope is off by just one word. The journal subtitles itself "A Magazine of Formal Poetry."

I've been in touch with Ashley Anna McHugh, the editor of Measure Review, and I assume she'll tell the Duotrope people what's what in terms of the relationship between the journals.
From my perspective as a Duotrope user, two separate listings would be the most useful solution. People out there who use Duotrope: if you feel the way I do, let the Duotrope staff know.

Maryann, the listing appears to have been changed on Duotrope, so your efforts have been rewarded. Thanks for calling their mistake to their attention and then insisting that they do something about it. They have not been at all responsive to my repeated complaints about their not including translation among their categories and not listing any journals that publish only translations. I was sorry to see, by the way, that Measure Review charges a fee for submission. The obstacles to publication in formal journals are high enough that it is a shame to see financial ones added to the mix. Few people make money from poetry, and almost no one makes money from formal poetry.

On the other hand, when I go to the Measure Review page on Duotrope, it still shows me my old reported submissions to Measure, so I'm not sure that Duotrope considers these venues to be separate.
I, too, wish translation journals were listed there.
