Default Two things

I do enough (read: too much) tooting of my own horn on Facebook and Twitter, and I hesitate to post here stuff people have seen there. But on the grounds that (1) a few people haven't, and have said they like to know, and (2) one of these things horn-toots for somebody else, here are two things.

Baltimore Review's new issue includes a poem of mine, unrhymed but metrical.

I've reviewed Samantha Pious's translation of the poems of the nineteenth-century lesbian poet Renee Vivien, published by Headmistress Press. (The press's founders include Mary Meriam and Risa Denenberg.)

No pats on the back needed, since lots of you have administered them elsewhere.

No pats on the back (as you requested), just appreciation for your poetry!

Maryann, I enjoyed your poem in Baltimore Review and appreciated your detailed review of the translation of Renee Vivien, in The Rumpus. Translations seldom get the professional attention they deserve, and you bring a translator's eye to the work (which is often preferable to the typical review by an academic, which is more likely to be devoted to pointing out all of the "errors" the translator made).

Susan

Hi Maryann,

I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, so I'm glad you posted here. Congrats! I really enjoyed the poem.

Oh, well in that case, I'll add mine.

Well done, you.

Thanks, Maryann. Loved the poem in the BR!
I too feel a little self-conscious about posting here now that there has been so much flack about it, but I think we should continue because (1) I don't catch everything on FB, and I missed this one, and (2) this is the only place I can be sure of reaching certain people, such as Cally.

Maryann, I love this poem. It's so full-face. Task achieved, absolutely. I feel like you've actually put your hands on my head and physically turned me to look.

And speaking of full-face, I adore your new author photo. You look seriously and exquisitely Italian. You have got your Mona Lisa look on!

An aside -- dear Gail White, that is a special thing to say. Like Nausheen, I have no 'social media' presence at all (having jumped the facebook ship long ago), and the only online thing I ever do is check the Sphere when I can (which is infrequently right now because I'm shifting continents once again). What I read here is the news I like to know. So I, too, say keep posting. I have never known a little thing that wasn't a big thing, too. With Maryann's indulgence, I'll post a little/big song that is anthemic here in my home country. And the sentiment of its chorus is pretty much the root of how I feel about .... well, most things, actually! (Click on the 'show more' button if you want to read all the lyrics, which are great.)

Again --- thanks for this poem, Maryann. It turned my head.

Cally
