Default Sonnet in New Verse News

Hey, wow, I managed to publish something.

Thanks to the many Sphereans who helped me to workshop it here a really, really long time ago. And especially to Roger Slater and Susan McLean.

Congrats, Julie! I read your sonnet yesterday, and enjoyed it.

Best,

Martin

Fascinating and gorgeous poem, Julie. I love the kind of pun you have on the two Saint Johns.

Stunningly good poem, Julie, so dense and also such a marvelous use of the form. Congratulations.

Thank you, Martin, Susan, and Andrew.

This is my most-rejected poem ever, because it's so near to my heart that I couldn't give up on it, as I do with most of my poems after repeated "no, thanks"es. (Yeah, I know, I probably give up too easily. But I really, really wanted this one to find a home.)

Just reading it makes me happy. Well done, Julie. Cometh the hour, cometh the sonnet - though in this case it's probably the other way round.

Julie, I'm so glad you didn't give up on this one. I didn't know the story at all; I've just now read the Commonweal article. Bless your persistent efforts, and it's a fine sonnet (and a very good pun with those names).

Excellent, Julie. (I remember the poem, but not giving you any particularly useful help with it).

Congrats Julie, I saw this in my Facebook feed. Nicely done. I also enjoyed reading up the back-story.

I think this may well be the best way to do news-related poetry. Write the poem well in advance and wait for the news to catch up with you

-Matt
