Server Update
We've been the target of a massive denial of service attack with origination points that appear to be Taiwan and China. Hence the recent flakiness of the Sphere's automated email notification system and server downtime today.
I've got things to the point where you should be able to connect again now. However, there's still a lot to do to harden the server and make it more resilient to such attacks and I'm still working away at it.
Cheers,
...Alex

Are we flattered or just plain pissed?
Keep up the good work!

It's a heroic enterprise, Alex. We're all immensely grateful.

Alex, you're a hero.
Whatever it was that you did to restore things - thank you; I was beginning to feel quite bereft!

Good work Alex.
Poets.org has been down for weeks with a brief resumption of services. Apparenty it was badly hacked. Like Allen, I wonder, should poets be flattered to be targets? Seems so odd to me but I guess the perpetrators do not really care who they affect. Chaos, wherever they can make it, is the goal.

The invaders still trying to knock down the gates
Thanks everyone!
Unfortunately, there was another breach today -- still the denial of service type attack, to the point were the system disk was filling with log files which automatically disabled useful service. You might have noticed the database errors earlier today instead of the usual Sphere pages. That has just been resolved. I'm still looking for permanent firewall solution. Meanwhile, we're still in fire-fighting mode where I've trying to undo the damage from the denial of service attack as it happens to prevent another system downtime.
Thanks again everyone for your understanding, patience and support.
Cheers,
...Alex

Who the $%#@ has enough of a grudge against a $%#@&ing poetry workshop to mount a DOS attack on its server? That seems like overkill. You're not Microsoft.
Have you recently banned a mentally unstable 16 year old hacker? Have you somehow managed to make enemies over the years?
