well this is one of those newbie questions -- I am curious about the stars. I might spend a good long time searching thru here looking for the answer but I'm just too sleepy at the moment. What are they for? Are they marks of seniority on the forum? Is there some secret military order in place? Astrology? Free masonry. A+ students? What?

I'm jealous. In all my lifetime, I never got stars for anything, no matter how hard I tried. The nuns just whacked my knuckles.

Ann

Hi Ann,

a star is awarded to any member who returns to the forum within one week of their poem being flayed alive on the Deep End.

The people with the most stars have survived the greatest number of catastrophes.

Nah, not really - stars are an index to the number of posts. Stick around and see your firmament populate.

Ann, most of us get stars added automatically as we pass certain numbers of total posts. So as Janet says, the more you talk you more you get! I don’t know the exact milestones, but Carol Taylor will probably tell you.

Staff, or others who have special titles bestowed on them, get the stars regardless of post totals, or so it appears. Stars for totals or titles.

Henry

Don't listen to Henry. They represent sexual conquests - nothing more or less. You notify Carol Taylor whenever appropriate, and she posts another star for you.

Actually Ann, they represent shots of whiskey ingested. So when you see 4659 next to your lariat's name, you know what deep trouble I am in.

Ann,

Welcome to Eratosphere.

I believe you can look forward to one star when you reach a hundred posts, two at three hundred, and so on up to five. I have no inside knowledge, this comes from observation only, but I'll bet that no matter how many stars you achieve you will always remember your first with special affection

WOW....Michael's had sex 2325 times and Carol knows about EACH occurance!!!

Tim has had either 4713 shots or 4659, depending on if you believe what he says or what the number next to his name really is......

Me, I always thought the number stood for each time you succeeded in annoying someone. (notice what a saint I am at a mere 574 and a measly 2 stars.)

The stars are warnings that someday you might be asked to use a word like "garrulity" in a poem, and explain its meaning in the context of your poem.

Lo -

You misunderstand. I talked or obsessed about sex 2325 times. Actual occurences (at least those I'm proud enough of to warrant sharing them with Carol and the Auditing and Confirmation Committee) were only five.

Michael
