Hi Aaron,

Thinking about this again, I guess that sexless sex can be seen up from a step up from porn (observation and fantasy): a giving in, a consummation of sorts. I guess it depends on how "sexless" is interpreted. So to throw in a couple more possibilities:

Causes? Effects? My/The only answer
is sexless sex with a saurian dancer.

Causes? Effects? There's no answer.
Just sexless sex with a saurian dancer.

In the latter case, even if it is redescription, that's no longer an issue (insofar as it was one in the first place) since there is no answer, just the spectacle.

best,

Matt

John, you know your Yeats!

Matt, whoa, sex with a lizard dancer. Hmn. I haven't tried it yet but mark me down as "willing to learn."

Maybe:

Causes? Effects? This evening's answer
is sexless sex with a saurian dancer.

I like it. My favourite variant yet. The implication that at other times there are other answers. But not tonight.

Yes, I very much like that implication as well.

Cheers,
John

"Sexless sex" has got me thinking about Milton's angel sex:

Adam asks. . .

Love not the heavenly Spirits, and how their love
Express they? by looks only? or do they mix
Irradiance, virtual or immediate touch?

To whom the Angel, with a smile that glowed
Celestial rosy red, Love's proper hue,
Answered. Let it suffice thee that thou knowest
Us happy, and without love no happiness.
Whatever pure thou in the body enjoyest,
(And pure thou wert created) we enjoy
In eminence; and obstacle find none
Of membrane, joint, or limb, exclusive bars;
Easier than air with air, if Spirits embrace,
Total they mix, union of pure with pure
Desiring, nor restrained conveyance need,
As flesh to mix with flesh, or soul with soul....

Which final stanza do we prefer--the one with "mental" or the one with "nightly":

but what can I do? The wretch—Hell, my whole
mental revue—is out of control.
Causes? Effects? This evening's answer
is sexless sex with a saurian dancer.

Or

but what can I do? The wretch—Hell, my whole
nightly revue—is out of control.
Causes? Effects? This evening's answer
is sexless sex with a saurian dancer.

?

I think "nightly," yeah?

I think "nightly," too.

I read this with a mixture of great amusement and disgust. I still don't know quite what to think.

Ah, but I think "gonzo" is better than "nightly." I've gone for that.

Edward, do come back and tell me about your amusement and disgust.

I have revised the final stanza from

but what can I do? The wretch—Hell, the whole
gonzo revue—is out of control.
Causes? Effects? This evening's answer
is sexless sex with a saurian dancer.

to

but what can I say? The wretch—Hell, my whole
zoo cabaret—is out of control.
Causes? Effects? This afternoon's answer
is sexless sex with a saurian dancer.

Yes?

"hand jiving" -- just wondering: do you want this freaky creature to have hands? I'm thinking that "claws" alliterates nicely with "clever" in the previous line.

I preferred "mental" to "nightly". I guess I don't know exactly what this pantomime is - which saurine urge is involved -- but if it's a nightly event involving porn, and possible sex, my mind wanders in directions it didn't quite already. Maybe it should have done so already?
