Modern Metrics will present a "double feature" of Samuel Menashe & Richard Wollman on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the DownEast Arts Center in New York City.
In 2004, Samuel Menashe became the first recipient of the Neglected Masters Prize established by The Poetry Foundation, and his new volume–Samuel Menashe: New and Selected Poems-- has been published by the Library of America in conjunction with that award.
Wollman is an Associate Professor and Co-Director with of The Zora Neale Hurston Literary Center at Simmons College in Boston. Recently, the Sheep Meadow Press published his book, "Evidence of Things Seen."
There will also be an open reading for metrical poetry.
The reading will begin at 4p.m. and there will be a $5 cover at the door.
DownEast Arts Center is located at 203 Avenue A (between 12th and 13th Sts.)
Subway: 4,5,6,N,Q,R,W to 14th St. (Union Square); F to 2nd Ave.; L to First Ave.

Menashe is a great guy.
I met him at West Chester last summer. I bought his book and asked him to sign it. He not only did that, but hand-wrote some new poems in the spare leaves, so I have something very original; and all the while he was chatting up some women less than half his age.
Best regards,
David

I met Menashe at the Pink Pony Reading in New York City. On the open, I read a piece called "Soon Enough," which I'd workshopped here--and which, if anyone remembers, is about aging, death, and so forth. Menashe was audibly grumbling about that young whippersnapper as I got into the third stanza. He made the point of chatting with me afterwards, and was a very nice guy. His presence is quite a coup for MM, and kudos to Ray and Terese for getting both Samuel Menashe and Richard Wollman (who's no slouch, either) to the best metrical poetry-oriented reading in New York City.*

*Yes, MM is the only metrical poetry-oriented reading in New York City to my knowledge. But still. Point stands. With past features like Lee Slonimsky, Melissa Balmain, Terese Coe, Daniel Fernandez, Meredith Bergmann, R. Nemo Hill, Marcia Karp, and Michael Cantor, it's a pretty nifty reading, IMHO.
