Jee Leong Koh will read for Modern Metrics at the Shooting Star Theatre at 4 pm on Saturday, June 9, 2007.
Born in Singapore, Jee Leong Koh read English at Oxford University and studied creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College. His poems have appeared in Singaporean anthologies and American journals like
Crab Orchard Review, The Ledge, The Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide, and
The Shit Creek Review. Based now in New York City, he blogs at jeeleong.blogspot.com.
In 2006 the Singaporean government banned the reading of his poem,“Come on, straight boy, and make gay love with me” at ContraDiction, Singapore’s 2nd gay pride poetry reading. Koh says "The ban makes me out to be more dangerous than I am."
R. Nemo Hill will host, and there will be an Open for metrical poems. Admission is $5.
