Hi all

Desert Moon Review publisher Jim Corner is the judge for a special Pablo Neruda challenge with the winning poem(s) to be published in the Spring/Summer issue of Crescent Moon Journal now being finalized. Post your poems in the challenge thread at "Write a Poem with the Emotions of Neruda." Deadline is June 30. You may have to register for our site in order to participate.

Jim Corner explains:

tender, melancholy, sensuous, passionate

You can say anything you want, yessir, but it's the words that sing, they soar and descend...I bow to them...I love them, I cling to them, I run them down, I bite into them, I melt them down...I love words so much...The unexpected ones...The ones I wait for greedily or stalk until, suddenly, they drop...

IT'S A TWO WEEK CHALLENGE: DEADLINE JUNE 30, 2007

Did Neruda have emotions that other human beings don't also have?

Ah, Roger, you lack sangre, your corazon is devoid of infinite sadness, you know not of the love and the loss, the dark wind whistling across the blood red moon.

I think one way to really enliven this would be to think of it as a dual challenge - the same poem must be submitted here, but also suitable for Tim Murphy's response/parody Playoffs thread.

That's corazón, Michael.

I believe the call for Neruda-like poems was made with good intentions, and I cannot for the life of me understand why Mr. George's posts are routinely met either with indifference or sarcasm.

Can someone who has been around the 'Sphere longer than I have please explain this to me?

Thank you.

I meant no disrespect. I've met Chris, I like him, and I've liked some of his poems, as well. I'm sure he didn't misunderstand my jocular way of presenting the question, but that he understood I was merely hoping he would explain what he means, that's all. I have no doubt that Chris has something more specific in mind, and that he knows that Neruda, as a human being, had only the emotions of his fellow human beings. I suppose there must be some particular blend of emotion that Chris associates with Neruda, and my comment was merely intended to provoke an elucidation. I myself have found that Neruda, who wrote voluminously in many styles and emotions, pretty much covers the gamut, so the Desert Moon challenge, as presented, didn't give me enough information. Any poem could qualify, it seems to me. So why even mention Neruda?

Hey, not everyone is lucky enough to recognize one's own catatonic depression as tragedy.

(Are we having fun yet?)

Chris, elucidation would be nice.
