Hi all

There is a Liverpool 800 Poems site which is looking for 800 poems to celebrate the city's 800th birthday. They are almost an eighth of the way there and I have had several poems accepted. Clare Kirwan and Roger Cliffe-Thompson are among the name poets who have also contributed.

Do you like the Beatles or have you been to Liverpool, want to write something about its history, or even just fantasize about it?

The Liverpool 800 site is at http://www.poem800.com/ -- go the poems page, picture of the Liver Building. The coloured squares have poems that have been accepted, the white squares are available for you to add a poem. Good luck.

Chris

Thanks for that--I sent in a Liverpudlian sonnet, which is in square 261.

Hi All

This project is now about an eighth of the way there, with one hundred poems so far accepted and posted. There is still time for you to write a poem and get it in. See details above and good luck.

Thanks, David. I see it there. You have probably received the following communication as I did but for others I thought I would transmit this information from the organizers...

*************

Hi all Poem 800 poets.

Brilliant!

We are now just over the TWO hundred mark and .... it's all down to you. Thanks

Only 600 to go! Its hitting the Liverpool Echo on Friday night (so they tell us) and the Daily Post's next week, apart from other groups now getting behind our effort.

Anyway it's great news... 203 is fantastic. Never, ever dreamed we would get to this amount in so short a time... so if you can please keep spreading the word... and let's get going for the rest.

Bestest,

Billy and Roger

Darn! My one and only poem that has a reference to the Beatles in it has already been published, making it ineligible. Anyway, best of luck on this project.

Hi Cathy

Better write another.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Hi Juleigh

I like your poetical Scouse recipe in square 131 as well.

One month to go to get 800 poems by August 28, the city's 800th birthday, and the organizers, Billy Moon and Roger Cliffe-Thompson say, "We have 318 poems collected so far, only 482 to go!"

See also the below article that appeared in the Liverpool Echo last Friday -- some of the good publicity they have been receiving for the project.

Chris
