I just got a mailing from the Poetry Foundation with an entry noting that A. E. Stallings will be reading at the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center in Chicago at 3 pm on October 14 (a Sunday). Midwesterners, this is one of the few times she will grace our immediate area with her poetic presence. For me it will certainly be worth the drive to Chicago--hell, it would be worth the swim across Lake Michigan!

Their line-up this year includes Reginald Gibbons, Helen Vendler, W. S. Merwin, Evan Boland and, next year, Pinsky, Oliver, Bidart, Hirsch.

Check out their website www.poetryfoundation.org. (Great photo of Alicia.)

So then you're attending, David? I envy you. I'll be in Boston then. And that alone is going to be too short of a time for me to swing down to Chicago. But if I could, I sure would love to. Does anyone ever video these things for YouTube? Just a thought.

Yes, I think I'll make the trek--about three hours from here, but you can also make it a day in Chicago. I went to there to see Gary Snyder at the Art Institute a few months ago. It will be worth the drive for certain.

Alica's reading was marvelous last night and definitely worth the AmTrak write from my home there. The turn out was good and it was good to see--besides the people who had connections with Hellenic Museum where she spoke--several young people who had no connection with the museum or the Greek heritage society of Chicago but had simply come to hear the poetry.

David,

I was hoping you'd post a few words about this today. Thanks. Really wish I could have been there. Maybe next time.
