ROGER AMES: Requiem for Our Time
GABRIEL FAURÉ: Requiem
Jeffrey Rink, Conductor
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9 AT 8 PM
OLD SOUTH CHURCH, COPLEY SQUARE, BOSTON
Premiered in 1985 as Requiem for Unbelievers, Ames’s Requiem combines the Latin text of the Mass for the Dead with the modern poetry of
Anne Sexton. This will be its first New England performance. Roger Ames is a noted composer of operas and vocal works including Amistad and In Memoriam: Warsaw 1943.
Faure’s Requiem, premiered in 1893, is a profound testament of faith with an ethereal beauty that has made it one of the most-beloved Requiem settings of our time.
With soloists David Murray, baritone, and Ilana Davidson, soprano.
