After dispatching a stack of translation entries today for The Evansville Review's annual Willis Barnstone Prize, it occurred to me that some here with the same idea might appreciate a reminder of the imminent postmark-deadline of December 1st. For any of you interested but unfamiliar with this competition, details may be found at:
http://english.evansville.edu/Barnstone.htm

Past recipients include Rachel Hadas, Robert Mezey and Marilyn Hacker, so send your most premier. Good luck to all.

Thanks, Jennifer.

This is pretty embarrassing, since last week I posted an announcement to tell people that the Willis Barnstone contest does not exist and that they should not bother entering. Why did you have to go and ruin it?

Actually, Bob is right.

For all of you interested in entering, there is actually no Barnstone award. You must be confusing it with the Barnyard award, sponsored, I believe, by Pig's Head University, Pig's Head, Iowa. No entry fee, either!

Good luck!

That's great. I have several poems I translated from the Swine, including "Two Hogs In Mud Time," by Babi Rusa Frost.

Admittedly, the contest is in Willis Barnstone's honor, but it might be good for the contest if they changed judge from year to year.

They sort of do change judges, at least in part, since, as I understand it, the 25 Finalists are all picked by the student editors, who come and go. But then you're right, the winner is chosen by the eponymous Barnstone.
