This year's West Chester Conference will have as Keynote Speaker none other than Richard Wilbur--this is exciting news!
It's June 4-7, 2008.

Terrific news! I have never heard him, so I am looking forward to this enormously. Is any other information available yet about the conference?

Wow. Same here. I have never heard Wilbur read or heard an address by him. That will be super.

Susan,
I don't see any information about the rest of the 2008 program at wcupa.edu yet, but I see there are photos from each of the last five years. If you click on 2006, you'll see a pic of Sam Gwynn at the podium with what appears to be his shoe in his hand.
Hmm, last time I saw a pic of a man with a shoe raised over his head was when Krushchev visited the UN--remember? The caption says "Sam Gwynn emphasizes a critical point about poetry"--I'd love to know the details, someone, anyone, please!

If I don't get there next year, I'll kick myself.

I see, Mike. Sam has jumbo typewriter keys so he needs shoes on his hands to dance on the keys! Thank you.

I remember the incident well. Sam denounced several of those present as "lackeys of deconstructionism" and "running dogs of the language poets", and hinted at moving mobile sonnet-launchers and nuclear missives into the Balkans.
