Dear Eratosphereans,
I am also pleased to announce that Marion Shore will cease her roving ways for an anchor role as forum moderator, this time taking on the Translation Forum. Most of you who have been on the Sphere for some time will not only be familiar with Marion’s days on the Deep End, but also of her impressive credentials as a critic, poet and translator:
- Marion Shore has published poetry, fiction and translations in various journals and anthologies. Her translations include works by Dante, Villon, Ronsard, Baudelaire, Rilke and many others. She has published a book of Petrarch's love poems in translation, entitled "For Love of Laura: Poetry of Petrarch". She is a two-time winner of the Nemerov sonnet award.
Please join me to welcome back Marion to Eratosphere … even if she never really left!
Cheers,
...Alex

Marion -
I am so pleased - all of your friends in Massachusetts will be pleased - to hear that you have ceased your roving ways. Congratulations, and welcome back!

Very good choice, and one that will no doubt inspire me to at least double my visits to Translation.
And the good thing about promoting a former Rover like Marion is that it almost makes the "Welcome to your new moderator" posts on the forum unnecessary, as everyone has probably already been welcome to her.

YES YES YES
PERFECT.
And Marion you're so darned modest it took me ages to discover how much you know and have accomplished.
Perfect. Thank you.

Marion,
Welcome indeed. I have been translating, from the Hungarian, to the near exclusion of original work for the last decade and it can feel a little wintry around here. I hope we can reach out to the larger community. I've noticed the high esteem in which you're held, so perhaps . . This takes nothing away from the estimable Michael Juster. My P.R. push would stress,"Read our translations as you would English language poems. Rip apart our syntax, meters, rhythms, rhymes, sound effects, even logic. If you can read and comment on the source, great, if not, great." I translate Magyar. I'm not gonna find many Hungarian speakers here but there are some damn smart poets.
Welcome again,
Michael Slipp

Thank you all so much for your welcome! I'm looking forward to hanging out down under at Translation.
As far as my roving days, I don't know if they'll ever be totally over... but we won't go there.
Marion
