Dear Sam,
I look forward to your coments on my final interview with Tim Steele, who declined to answer one question I posed him, on the grounds that he hadn't read all the requisite books. What I asked was, what do you think of the second generation of New Formalists, those who grew up under the tutelage of our contemporaries? It strikes me as an astonishingly accomplished group, and I know that many of them have studied with you at West Chester. The poets I find particularly striking are Greg Williamson, Catherine Tufariello, Leslie Monsour, Diane Thiel, and Alicia Stallings, and those are only the poets who have published books or chapbooks. Fellow fisherman, are the wind and the tide finally on our side?
your understudy,
Timothy
